The Frozen Snot – Jan. 26th, 2012 – McElhattan, PA – It is a 12-mile trek, trail run, hike, adventure race featuring the worst that Bald Eagle Mountain provides and scheduled during what is usually the coldest week of the year.  It is aimed at the hardcore trail runner and hardy hiker. Snowfest – Feb. 10th, 2013 – RB Winter State Park, Mifflinburg, PA – A 3.5 mile trail run through the snow. Other winter activities include demonstrations from 12-4 include snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobile rides, ice skating, horse drawn wagon rides, ice cutting, ice fishing and other winter fun.Snowfest information from Mid Penn Trailblazers

 

Mile Run (Tiadaghton) Trail Challenge Half Marathon – March 30, 2012 – Between Loganton and Milton on Interstate 80. A technical race featuring over 4000 feet of elevation change. Tiadaghton Trail Challenge Half Marathon

 

Dirty Kiln Trail Race and Half Marathon, April 6th, 2013 – Canoe Creek State Park, Hollidaysburg, PA - The first trail race from the Allegheny Trailrunners for the 2013 Season. Runners will have a choice to run the 5-mile course up Moore’s Hill and around Canoe Creek Lake or a brand new half-marathon course! Dirty Kiln Trail Races

 

Night Flight – TBD – Camp Mount Luther, Mifflinburg, PA – The Night Fight Trail Run is a 5 and 10-kilometer race. Runners decide on race day if they want to do a 5K or 10K (a double loop of the 5K). Hyner Challenge – April 20, 2013, Hyner, PA  – It is the famous 25k challenge with 4300 ft. of elevation gain. If that wasn’t enough, there is also a 50k challenge for ultra runners. Registration is already open and is limited to 1000 runners. The Hyner Challenge

 

Greenwood Furnace Trail Challenge – May 5, 2013 – McAlevy’s Fort, PA - Greenwood Furnace State Park. The second annual Greenwood Furnace Trail Challenge is an intense, rugged, single track half-marathon. A figure 8 route of rocky climbs and nasty downhills; it starts at Greenwood Furnace State Park, climbs to the fire tower, drops down in to Alan Seeger Natural Area before climbing back to the tower, and then returns down to the park. Rothrock Challenge – June 1, 2013 – Tussey Mountain Ski Resort, Boalsburg, PA – Rothrock Challenge is a terrific and very challenging 30k trail run with nearly 5,000 elevation gain, beautiful fauna and mountain laurel, and lots and lots of rocks. Rothrock Challenge Web Page

 

Sloppy Socks 5k – TBD – Legion Park, Hollidaysburg, PA -Sloppy Socks is a trail race in the traditional “Alpine-style” racing. Runners take three laps around Legion Park with creek crossings, a river traverse and more. Sloppy Socks 5k – Hollidaysburg Community Partnership

Laurel Highlands Ultra – June 8, 2013 – Laurel Highlands Trail, Ohiopyle, PA to Johnstown, PA – The races will start in Ohiopyle, with the 70 mile individual and relay races running the entire length of the trail and the 50K races finishing at the 31 mile point near the intersection of route 31. Prowl the Sproul 10k Trail Race – July 20, 2013 – Hyner, PA – A 10K run through the mountains of Sproul State Forest. It’s 3 miles of uphill to the top of McCloskey moutain, and then a blistering 3.7 miles down to the finish. It’s truly one of the most challenging 10K’s around. Prowl the Sproul 10k

Run With The Deer Flies 15k & 25k Trail Race – TBD, Yellow Creek State Park, Penn Run, PA– The races will start and end at the scout camp and included plenty of hills, single track trails, rocks, pipeline roads, swamps, and even a few wild boar sightings. Run with the Deer Flies Trail Race

Allegheny Front Trail Run – July 27th, 2013. Moshannon State Forest, Philipsburg, PA. A 12 and 30 mile race in the heart of in PA’s Moshannon State Forest near Black Moshannon State Park.

Run the Park 5k Trail Run/Walk and 10k Trail Run – TBD - Powell Stackhouse Park, Westmont, PA – A technical trail run thorough Westmont’s Stackhouse Park. Email run_stackhousepark@yahoo.com for questions.

 

Dam Scramble 10 Mile/20 Mile Trail Race – TBD – Curwensville Lake Rec. Area – Curwensville, PA – This year will be offering two options for participants. The short course will be 9-11 miles and the long course will be 18-20 miles. Both course options will include some nice singletrack, climbs that will get your heart pumping and great views of Curwensville Lake.  Dam Scramble at Curwensville Lake

The Baker Ultra Challenge – TBD – Forest County to Brookville, PA – The UltraChallenge is a 50-mile ultramarathon on the Baker Trail. This year, the UltraChallenge starts at the northern trailhead in Forest County at 6:30 AM. Runners will follow the Baker Trail south for 40 miles to Summerville, then turn east to Brookville and end at the Brookville YMCA. Baker Trail Ultra Challenge

Dam Half Marathon and Full Marathon Trail Race, TBD, RB Winter State Park, Mifflinburg, PA – The Dam Half is a challenging trail ½ or full marathon that takes contestants over single & double track trails with some portions of fire roads. Bald Eagle Megatransect – September 28, 2013 – Lock Haven, PA – The famous Megatransect is a 26+ mile/hike and trail run event designed to challenge any trained or seasoned athlete. Oil Creek 100 – October 5 and 6, 2013 – Oil Creek State Park, Titusville, PA – Home of the RRCA’s 100 mile “2011 Eastern Regional Ultra Championship” and the 2012 Ultra Championship race, this trail race offers a 100 mile, 100k, and 50k options in an extremely challenging course (17,786 ft. of elevation gain for the 100 mile race.) Dam Darkness 7 Mile Nighttime Trail Race – October 12, 2013 – Curwensville Lake Rec. Area – Curwensville, PA– The Dam Darkness is a night race held on trails at the Curwensville Lake Recreation Area. The challenge now will be doing it in the dark. The course will be approximately 7 miles long, and marked with glow sticks and reflective materials. Participants must provide their own illumination. Fire On The Mountain 50k – October 27, 2013 – Flintstone, MD – The event has been designated the Road Runners Club of America’s Maryland 50K Championship. Participants can expect a bit of extra “show” for this one this year, though this point-to-point trail race intends to maintain its low-key atmosphere in the 47,000-acre Green Ridge State Forest.
